Moved to Pennsylvania when he was nine years old during a snowstorm.
Attended Dickinson College, left Dickinson to become an insurance salesman for five years, Member of the Philadelphia Insurance League. First baseman in the Main Line Baseball League for four years. in 1923 he was a member of the team that one the national five-man archery championships at St. Lukes School in Wayne, PA. He was a minister of a small church during his three years at Ursinus. Summered in Ocean Grove since 1936.

Lived in Wayne, PA while in highschool.

The Rev. Louis W. Mitchell, a retired minister of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, died Thursday at his home, 130 Inskip Ave., Ocean Grove, N.J. He was 67.

Rev. Mitchell, who was born in St. Davids, retired in 1969 after 32 years as a minister in this area. He was a graduate of Radnor High School, Ursinus College and Drew Theological Seminary. In addition to serving pastorates, he served in a number of Methodist-related administrative posts.
He was for 20 years a member of the Methodist Board of Evangelism' for 12 years a trustee of Methodist Hospital and associate director for three years; a former chairman of the Philadelphia Conference committee on minimum salaries for ministers a trustee of the Methodist Home for Children for six years, and a member of the board of managers of the Methodist Book store.
Mr. Mitchell was for the last 26 years a trustee of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association. He was a former chief of the Ocean Grove Fire Police and chaplain of the Ocean Grove Fire and Police Departments. He was a member of the Union League and the Rotary Club of Chester.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ann P. Baker; two sons, Louis W. Jr. and David I.; a brother, a sister, and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday at St. Paul's U. M. Church, New York and Embury Aves., Ocean Grove.

Marriage Announcement, May 5, 1938:

Rev. and Mrs. Elias B. Baker, of Lynnwood ave., Glenside, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ann Baker, and the Rev. Louis W. Mitchell, pastor of the Stonehurst M. E. Church.

Rev. Baker was recently made pastor of the Glenside M.E. Church, succeeding the Rev. Alonzo S. Fite. Miss Baker is a student at Beaver College. Mr. Mitchell, who is a graduate of Ursinus College, and Drew Theological Seminary, is pastor of the Stonehurst Hills M.E. Church in Upper Darby, Pa. The wedding will take place in October. 18
